A ferry ride from Puerto Varas lies Chiloe', an island that is culturally remote from much of Chile.
"Chilotes" are direct descendent's from the Marapuche indigenous people of Chile and many live their entire lives within the remote villages of Chiloe'
Chiloe' is steeped in mythological folkloric roots and is home to a traditional culture of subsistence farmers, fishermen, and craftsmen. It is also residence to a large colony of Magellanic and Humboldt penguins at Chiloe's Punihuil colony .
